Hi. I am Barry Joseph.
I am formerly the VP of Digital Experience at the Girl Scouts of the USA and Associate Director For Digital Learning at the American Museum of Natural History.
When I began at the Museum I used this blog to talk about my adventures, exploring issues related to digital media and museum-based learning. I featured original interviews, thought pieces, and highlights from my work and those of my colleagues at the AMNH.
Starting in 2020, with the launch of Barry Joseph Consultancy, LLC, I turned this blog into a place to explore digital engagement writ large.

The ONE Game to Play to Understand Your Teenage Gamer

When Worlds Collide: Is Digital Design Denigrating or Saving Museums?
Yesterday, I spent an hour with five African-American and Latinx boys from West Harlem. All gamers. Over Zoom, we chatted about the role games played in their lives, how it helps them to be who they want to be in … Continue reading

Where to Find Me at the upcoming MuseWeb Conference
I love MuseWeb. When I started work in 2012 at AMNH, it was the only conference everyone asked me about. Are you going? Are you going? So eventually I went, and I found my people. Educators were still a small … Continue reading

Announcing Launch of New Web Site for Barry Joseph Consulting
In June of 1995, I posted my first web site. It was an innovative use of the new HTML tags for tables. Super snazzy – for the time, at least. In the last 27 years, I have produced countless web … Continue reading

Embracing the Job Search with Joyful Trepidation
I shouldn’t be writing this right now, the first morning of Rosh Hashanah (I should be getting ready for temple, albeit a virtual one), but how could I not? On the Jewish New Year we eat apples dipped in honey … Continue reading
